Trump is considering a military operation against Cuba — Politico
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is considering the use of military force against Cuba.
This was reported by Politico, citing a source familiar with the White House’s position.
The source told the publication that Washington is still trying to persuade Havana to make concessions, primarily in the economic sphere. Among the U.S. demands are the privatization of Cuban state-owned enterprises, the attraction of foreign investment, improved internet access for Cubans, and a commitment to purchase energy resources from American companies.
Pressure on Trump is being exerted by the Cuban diaspora in Florida, where many of his supporters live: polls show that they would support a military operation in Cuba. However, for now, the Trump administration is placing its main emphasis on diplomacy, according to Politico sources.
Earlier, on May 2, Trump announced his intention to send the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln to the coast of Cuba and take control of the island almost immediately.
Recall that in April, during a speech at the Turning Point USA event in Phoenix, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to radically change policy toward Cuba and promised rapid changes for the country.
The U.S. State Department officially informed Congress of the participation of a significant contingent of Cuban citizens in combat operations on the side of the Russian Federation.
