Trump said a trade agreement with Britain could be renegotiated
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the trade agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom “can always be changed,” commenting on the growing tensions in relations between the two countries.
He made these remarks in a telephone interview with the British television channel Sky News.
The American leader also criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, stating that he “made a tragic mistake” by halting oil production in the North Sea.
“You see, you have the highest energy prices in the world. And I think he made a tragic mistake regarding immigration,” Trump said.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the state of bilateral relations, noting that the UK had failed to support the US at certain critical moments when it was needed.
“It’s a relationship where, when we asked them for help, they weren’t there. When we needed them, they weren’t there. And they still aren’t,” he said.
Commenting on the current trade agreement between the countries, Trump emphasized that it is beneficial for London but could be revised.
“And we offered them a good trade deal. Better than it should have been. One that can always be changed,” he stated.
At the same time, the U.S. president added that he does not consider the British monarch to be involved in the tensions between the two countries.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed sharp dissatisfaction with the signing of a clean energy cooperation agreement between California Governor Gavin Newsom and the British government.
During a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that China adheres to a peaceful path of development and will never threaten other countries.
