In Bulgaria, Rumen Radev's coalition is leading in the elections

In Bulgaria’s snap parliamentary elections, the “Progressive Bulgaria” coalition, led by President Rumen Radev, has secured a decisive victory.

According to data from the Central Election Commission, with nearly 80% of ballots counted, the center-left alliance received 44.48% of the vote, leaving its opponents far behind.

The centrist party “We Continue the Change” came in second with 13.65%.

Rounding out the top three is the GERB-SDS coalition led by former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, which garnered 13.2% of the vote. Also entering parliament are the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (5.84%) and the pro-Russian Revival Party (4.4%).

“Progressive Bulgaria wins unequivocally. This is a victory of hope over mistrust. This is a victory of freedom over fear. And, finally, this is a victory, if I may say so, of morality,” the politician told reporters, commenting on the initial results.

During the election campaign, Rumen Radev actively promoted anti-Western narratives and called for the restoration of close ties with Moscow.

The politician repeatedly emphasized that the Bulgarian people allegedly do not perceive Russia “as an enemy, regardless of the propaganda spread by impostors.”

In addition, he spoke out categorically against Bulgaria’s accession to the eurozone and the further increase in military aid to Ukraine.

In his speeches, the politician emphasized the need to create a “new security architecture” in Europe.

According to him, European leaders should focus on ensuring cheap energy supplies and halting the decline of industry by adopting a “pragmatic approach” in relations with the Kremlin.

Pro-Russian forces may win the elections in Bulgaria

Bulgarian police detained 30 people as part of a large-scale operation to combat voter bribery ahead of the early parliamentary elections.

A test train service between Ukraine and Bulgaria via Romania is scheduled to launch in the summer of 2026.
