A large fire at a military facility in Bulgaria has been extinguished
In Bulgaria, authorities have managed to contain a large-scale fire that broke out at the EMKO military plant in the village of Belitsa. The fire completely destroyed one of the plant’s warehouses, where explosions had been heard earlier.
Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident. According to preliminary information, investigators see no signs of external interference or sabotage as the cause of the explosions and the subsequent fire.
The Minister of Internal Affairs stated that the fire completely destroyed the entire warehouse at the “EMKO” military plant in the village of Belitsa, located in the municipality of Tryavna. Ammunition was stored there. The cause of the explosions and the fire is still being determined.
“An expert examination will determine the details of the explosions. A vehicle was present at the scene, but it has not yet been confirmed that the fire started from it. The ammunition stored in the vehicle varies in type and nature. The necessary measures have been taken to cordon off the danger zone, and all employees have been evacuated from the risk area unharmed,” the minister stated.
Slavcho Dimiev, director of the EMKO production unit, added that the warehouse stores explosive charges and other ammunition, but there is no reason to believe that the incident was caused by an external factor.
"The people who were unloading the cargo saw smoke in the warehouse, which is why the evacuation began. Thanks to the quick response, there were no casualties. When powder mixtures burn, they emit smoke and the temperature rises,” he noted, suggesting that the ignition of such a mixture was what caused the fire.
Due to concerns about smog and air pollution, local authorities urged residents to keep their windows closed, stay indoors, and use protective masks if necessary.
In Bulgaria, near the border with Romania, an unidentified drone exploded.
Bulgaria explained its withdrawal from the Coalition of the Willing and declared its support for Ukraine.
