Trump confirmed a brief conversation with Fed Chair Worsh
U.S. President Donald Trump said that a few days ago he had a brief conversation with Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh. At the same time, he denied reports of regular contact with the head of the U.S. central bank, according to CNBC.
Last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump and Worsh had spoken on multiple occasions since Worsh took the helm of the Fed in May. The U.S. president called this information false and clarified that he had contacted him only once. The Fed did not respond to CNBC’s request for comment.
The report comes amid concerns about the Fed’s independence. Unlike most of his predecessors, Trump has publicly commented on interest rate policy. He has stated that Warsh should lower rates, but at the same time acknowledged that the Fed chair may decide otherwise. Warsh himself has previously said that he is willing to listen to the president or anyone else regarding rates, but will make his own decisions.

Direct contact between the U.S. president and the Federal Reserve chair has been rare in recent years. After returning to the White House in 2025, Trump had only one scheduled regular meeting with former Fed Chair Jerome Powell. They also visited the Fed’s construction site together after Trump alleged mismanagement of the renovation project.
According to CNBC, last week Trump renewed his attempt to remove Federal Reserve Board member Lisa Cook, who has served a 14-year term. It is unclear whether Trump’s conversation with Worsh took place before or after this move. Worsh’s June calendar also showed three meetings with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
