British officials explained what will happen to the revolver gifted by Erdogan
The revolver gifted by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will not be taken to the United Kingdom. Sources close to Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the weapon will remain in the custody of British officials in Turkey.
During the NATO summit, President Erdogan presented Starmer with a personalized revolver loaded with live ammunition.
This weapon, engraved with the prime minister’s name, was one of a series of similar gifts presented to the leaders of all countries participating in the summit in Ankara.
The weapon is expected to be deactivated, meaning it will no longer be capable of firing live ammunition.
Erdogan lifted export restrictions on the gift, but it was left in Turkey because importing live firearms into the United Kingdom is prohibited by law. This was reported by the BBC.
As a reminder, after the NATO summit, Erdogan presented von der Leyen and Koszt with engraved pistols.
