Tourist trains have been temporarily banned in Britain due to the risk of fires

In the United Kingdom, tourist steam train service has been temporarily suspended due to the high risk of wildfires amid a prolonged heat wave.

According to The Independent, the decision was made by the rail infrastructure operator Network Rail following a fire in Cheshire. Preliminary reports suggest the fire may have been caused by sparks from a steam locomotive.

The incident caused significant disruptions to train service: 72 trips were canceled, and another 158 ran with delays. In particular, this includes a West Coast Railway train, known as the “Harry Potter train,” which was used during the filming of the movies about the young wizard.

Network Rail explained that the ban will remain in effect until the risks are eliminated. Due to the extreme heat and dry vegetation, even minor sparks from steam locomotives could cause large-scale fires.

Due to the restrictions, a number of tourist trips have already been canceled or replaced with diesel locomotives. Representatives of the heritage railways supported this decision, calling it necessary to ensure safety.
