Fire breaks out at North Adelaide care home, one person hospitalized — ABC News Australia
A fire broke out at the Helping Hand aged care home in North Adelaide, Australia. One person was taken to hospital after leaving the premises independently, ABC News reports.
Fire contained within 15 minutes
The fire started in a room on the lower floor of the facility on Buxton Street. At 12:30, 34 firefighters in 12 vehicles arrived at the scene. Fire and rescue service spokesperson Nicole Bradley said emergency services quickly identified the source of the fire and brought it under control within 15 minutes.
According to her, the firefighters' actions prevented the fire from spreading further through the building. Several people were evacuated from the home during the fire.

Smoke damaged adjacent floors
Fire service commander Phil Ross said emergency services received several calls about the fire. According to him, smoke damage was recorded on some adjacent floors.
Ross also noted that the fire occurred in a section of the complex for independent living, where local 240-volt smoke alarms are installed and are not connected to fire service monitoring. The person who was in the room evacuated independently and was taken to hospital. According to the commander, the person had a laceration to the head.
Investigators are determining the cause of the fire. Ross estimated the preliminary fire damage at about 200,000 Australian dollars.
