Queensland forecasts up to 37°C and fire danger — ABC News Australia
Hot and dry weather is expected in the Australian state of Queensland on Monday, creating a fire danger across most of the state, especially in the south. As ABC News Australia reports, temperatures in some areas will be unusually high for September.
Above-average temperatures
According to Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology, Monday could become the hottest September day in the Darling Downs region since 2017. Brisbane is forecast to see maximum temperatures of 32 to 34 degrees Celsius, around 5 degrees above average.
Temperatures will reach 28 degrees on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, and 29 degrees in Bundaberg. Toowoomba is expected to reach up to 31 degrees, while the air in some parts of the Lockyer Valley may warm to 36 degrees.

Senior meteorologist Steve Hadley said temperatures of about 28 degrees are forecast in Cairns and Townsville, 26 in Mackay, and 32 in Rockhampton. South of Longreach, temperatures may exceed the average September level by 5 to 10 degrees. Longreach is expected to reach up to 36 degrees, Mount Isa up to 34, and the Channel Country region up to 36–37 degrees.
Dry conditions and changing winds
Dry weather and elevated temperatures are creating a fire danger across most of Queensland. In Townsville, where sea breezes occur regularly, changing wind directions during the day may complicate firefighters’ work.
On Saturday, firefighters contained a grass fire near Townsville Airport amid strong winds. Fire service officer Chris Maguire said the fire spread quickly, while windy conditions fuelled the flames and made them harder to contain. Wind changes are also expected in other parts of the state in the coming days, including sea breezes along the east coast.
