Dozens of people were injured in the Czech Republic after a collision between buses

A serious traffic accident involving two city buses occurred in the Czech Republic. More than 30 people were injured in the head-on collision, some of them seriously. Dozens of medical personnel, rescue workers, and police officers were on the scene.

On the morning of July 18, near the village of Oleksovice in the Znojmo Region of the Czech Republic, two city buses collided head-on. The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on the main road between Brno and Znojmo, near the turnoff to Lehovice. Immediately after the accident was reported, all emergency services arrived at the scene. Due to the large number of victims, 13 ambulance crews, a medical helicopter, a traffic inspector, and a special high-capacity vehicle capable of transporting several patients at once were deployed to the scene. “All emergency services are working at the scene. According to preliminary information, the buses collided head-on. There are many victims at the scene,” said police spokeswoman Petra Gruzova.

According to emergency medical services spokeswoman Mihaela Botova, at least 30 people sustained minor injuries. Another nine passengers suffered moderate to severe injuries. All of the injured are being transported to hospitals in Brno and Znojmo. Due to the scale of the accident, the emergency medical service called in additional medical personnel who were not on duty at the time of the crash. Austria was also prepared to assist, but Czech rescue workers have not yet taken advantage of this offer.

Police have closed the section of the road where the accident occurred and set up a detour through the towns of Borotice and Božice. Law enforcement officials are still investigating the causes of the head-on collision. Cleanup efforts and the investigation into the circumstances of the accident are currently underway. Law enforcement officials are determining exactly what caused the collision between the two buses, according to Novinky.

Dmytro Shep’yuk, a 20-year-old Ukrainian alpine skier who represented the national team at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, went to the Czech Republic to work after the season ended. The athlete works in construction in Brno for eight to ten hours a day.
