Chongqing hosts 20th meeting of international economic council to mayor — ECNS

The 20th meeting of the Chongqing Mayor’s International Economic Advisory Council (CMIA) was held in Chongqing, China. Representatives of 32 Fortune Global 500 companies and leading enterprises from 11 countries took part in the event, which ran from Tuesday to Wednesday, ECNS reports.

Technological cooperation

The meeting focused on pooling global innovation resources and expanding scientific and technological cooperation. Zhang Yongwu, director of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce and secretary-general of the CMIA Secretariat, said that the advisers had prepared recommendations in four areas: pooling global innovation resources, technological and industrial elements, international innovation talent, and an open innovation ecosystem.

Investment and manufacturing

Adient President and CEO Jerome Dorlack said that Chongqing is important to the company due to its industrial partners, customers, suppliers, leading universities, and access to talented professionals. HP Inc. Chief Procurement Officer Jonathan Jennings said that the company has been cooperating with Chongqing for more than 19 years and has produced more than 450 million personal computers there.

Jin Kyu Han, executive vice president and president of Vibracoustic SE in the Asia-Pacific region, emphasized the importance of cooperation between different industries along supply and value chains. CMIA was established in 2006 to attract foreign investment, expertise, and technology to Chongqing. Over 20 years, adviser companies have invested more than $100 billion in the city.
