A plane bound for St. Petersburg was forced to land in Helsinki due to the closure of a Russian airport following a drone attack. After a temporary suspension of flights, the flight resumed its route.
The plane, which was headed to St. Petersburg, was forced to change course during the night and early morning hours and land at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in Finland after Russian authorities temporarily closed the airspace over the city. According to sources, the St. Petersburg airport ceased operations on the night of June 5 amid a drone attack, leading to temporary flight restrictions and route changes for civil aviation.
After the emergency landing in Finland, the plane subsequently resumed its flight and left the country’s airspace, continuing toward its destination.
Finnish authorities note that the situation was under control, and the decision to land was made in accordance with standard safety procedures in the event of neighboring airports being closed and changes in air traffic. This was reported by the Finnish publication Yle, citing a statement from the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard.
