Ghanaian military nurses urged to remain dedicated to service — MyJoyOnline
Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Health, Professor Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has urged the country’s military nurses and midwives to maintain a compassionate attitude towards patients, strive for professional excellence and remain dedicated to service. She spoke on 17 September 2026 at the closing ceremony of Military Nightingales Week.
Honours for healthcare workers
The week-long event was dedicated to professional development, recognition of outstanding service and honouring the contribution of serving and former military nurses and midwives to healthcare delivery. This was reported by MyJoyOnline.
Ayensu-Danquah congratulated the award recipients and recognised participants for their contributions and achievements. She also thanked the organisers, the leadership of the 37 Military Hospital, sponsors, partners and staff who contributed to holding the event.

Experience of retired professionals
The deputy minister stressed the importance of the experience and knowledge of nurses and midwives who have completed their professional careers. According to her, this experience should be used to train the next generation of healthcare workers and strengthen professional development.
She also assured the Ghana Armed Forces Medical Services of the Ministry of Health’s continued support on the welfare, training and professional development of military nurses and midwives. The official then formally declared the 2026 Military Nightingales Week closed.
