Ghana may charge duty for bringing in more than two phones — MyJoyOnline
The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority has warned travellers that mobile phones exceeding two may be classified as commercial imports and subject to duty. Enhanced checks of electronic devices brought into the country are being conducted, including at Kotoka International Airport.
This was reported by MyJoyOnline, citing Customs Commissioner Aaron Kanor. He urged passengers not to carry other people’s phones if this causes the number of devices to exceed the permitted limit.
Phones for personal use
According to Kanor, phones carried by passengers must be intended for personal use. He explained that a person may have their own phone and one additional device, for example, for their wife.

At the same time, carrying several phones at the request of friends, relatives or other people may be considered commercial importation. The commissioner gave the example of a passenger arriving with seven phones handed over by different people. According to him, this would be commercial in nature because of the high value of modern iPhone and Samsung models.
Additional phones must be declared
The Customs Service urged travellers to declare additional phones rather than trying to bring them in as personal belongings. The agency noted that expensive smartphones are an important source of customs revenue when imported commercially.
