One of the world's longest pedestrian bridges has opened in Helsinki – video

The Kruunuvuoren silta bridge was officially opened in the Finnish capital, becoming the longest (1,191 meters) and highest structure of its kind in the country. The new structure connects the Kruunuvuorenranta residential area with Korkeasaari Island, shortening the route to the city center from 11 to 5 kilometers.

Euronews reports this, noting that the bridge is intended exclusively for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation, while private vehicles are prohibited from using it.

According to Helsinki Mayor Daniel Sazonov, the bridge will become a new, unique landmark that will transform the architectural connection between the city’s districts. Over 50,000 people visited the structure during just the first weekend after its opening. While Finland is implementing large-scale infrastructure projects aimed at environmental sustainability and resident convenience, in Russia, construction priorities are increasingly shifting toward military needs, and civilian projects of this scale are becoming rare. The new bridge in Helsinki has already become a popular spot for photos, which users are actively sharing online.

As a reminder, China recently officially opened the “world’s highest bridge,” which is expected to significantly improve life for local residents in one of China’s provinces.

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini called on the government to ignore the Court of Auditors’ decision to block the construction of a bridge connecting Sicily to the mainland. He emphasized the economic importance of the project.
