Police shoot dead suspect in murder of woman and three children in Karachi — Dawn
In Karachi, Pakistan, police said they shot dead Muhammad Hamayun Khan, a suspect in the murder of a woman and her three young children. According to law enforcement, this happened on Thursday evening during an operation to recover the alleged murder weapon.
As Dawn reports, Mehwish Danish and her children — eight-year-old Mirhad, six-year-old Hasnain, and two-year-old Ashmira — were killed on September 14 at a house in Sector 7-D of Surjani Town. Police described Khan as a close relative of the deceased. After a crime report was registered, a special investigation team detained him.
Police version
According to law enforcement, during the initial investigation Khan allegedly told investigators that he came to Mehwish Danish’s home when her husband, Mohammed Danish, was not at home. Police claim that he reported attempting to rape the woman, after which he allegedly killed her with an iron rod. Investigators also said that he admitted to killing two-year-old Ashmira.

Police said the two older children were returning from classes at a religious school when the suspect was leaving the house. According to investigators, he allegedly killed them with the same rod and then threw it into a drainage canal.
Shooting during recovery operation
According to a police spokesperson, Khan was being held in custody for the recovery of the iron rod. During the operation, he allegedly took a pistol from a police officer and opened fire while trying to escape.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Nauman Sheikh was wounded in the shooting. Police said they returned fire, after which Khan died at the scene. Law enforcement also reported recovering a pistol and an iron rod which, they said, may have been used in the killings.
