In Colombia, a new pedestrian bridge collapsed during the opening ceremony

The preliminary cause was overcrowding. A large number of people entered the bridge at the same time, and it was not prepared for this.

At that moment, the mayor of Bagado, Marinela Palomeke Serna, was on the bridge, according to the Need To Know website.

The incident occurred on April 19 in the city of Bagado in western Colombia. The bridge was built to connect the city center with the San Marino district. It was nearly 86 meters long.

After the opening ceremony, Mayor Marinela Palomeca Serna walked across the bridge with residents. At that moment, the structure began to sway, and then the cables snapped. As a result, the people on the bridge fell into the river.

According to the website, eight people were injured. Three of the victims were taken to the nearest hospital, while the rest received medical attention on site.

Experts are currently investigating the cause of the bridge collapse. The area has been cordoned off, and investigators are examining the debris.

Earlier, six people were injured during the collapse of a road bridge across the Savala River in the Voronezh region. The bridge was undergoing major repairs at the time and could not withstand the weight of two trucks.

A bridge collapsed near Nefteyugansk in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug of the Russian Federation. Two workers involved in its dismantling were killed, and two pieces of equipment—a KamAZ truck and a crane—fell into the span. Meanwhile, in the Amur Region, a bridge collapsed onto the railroad tracks while a truck was passing over it.
