Wreckage from a Russian drone that exploded in Latvia has been found
Latvia has recorded a violation of its airspace by a foreign drone, which, according to preliminary data, entered from Russian territory.
This was reported by the country’s Ministry of Defense.
It is noted that early warning systems detected a sound resembling an explosion in the Krāslava district. Units of the National Armed Forces, the State Police, and the Border Guard Service promptly arrived at the scene.
Law enforcement officials have already found debris from the drone. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties, and no damage to civilian infrastructure was reported.
The Latvian Ministry of Defense has assured that there is currently no further threat to the population or the country’s airspace. The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
As a reminder, a similar incident occurred in Lithuania the day before—on March 23, a drone, likely from Belarus, crashed and exploded on Lake Lavisas, more than 20 km from the border.
The drone that crossed Lithuanian airspace on Monday and subsequently crashed and exploded in the Varėna district was Ukrainian. This was confirmed by Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė.
The Lithuanian Minister of Defense will visit Ukraine to accelerate joint defense projects.
