Lithuania Identifies the Cause of the Disappearance of Ukrainian Drones Over the Baltic Sea — LRT
Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas explained why there have been no recent reports of Ukrainian drones violating the airspace of the Baltic states. According to him, this is due to a change in the tactics of Ukrainian strikes.
The defense minister noted that Ukraine has focused its attacks on targets located much deeper within Russian territory. This is precisely why drones are no longer crossing the airspace of the Baltic states, as they did previously.
Kaunas noted that although Ukraine “has the right to self-defense and is successfully exercising it,” his country’s airspace and the safety of Lithuanian citizens remain a priority.
He noted that the absence of recent incursions is likely due to the fact that Ukraine is targeting sites located farther from the borders of the Baltic states.
He also added that Lithuania is consistently strengthening its capabilities to monitor its airspace.
He made these remarks on Monday, August 10, during an appearance on LRT.
Lithuania and Latvia marked the sixth anniversary of the protests in Belarus.
As a reminder, Lithuania is considering the possibility of purchasing air defense systems from South Korea.
Since the beginning of the year, Lithuanian border guards have discovered 12 underground tunnels near the border with Belarus that migrants were using to try to enter the country. The tunnels on Lithuanian territory were up to 25 meters long, according to Deutsche Welle, citing the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service.
