The Louvre will reopen the Apollo Gallery following the robbery, but without the jewels

The Apollo Gallery at the Louvre in Paris, where French crown jewels worth 88 million euros were stolen in October 2025, will reopen to visitors on Wednesday. However, the exhibition will be open without the jewelry or the display cases containing the jewels.

Louvre President Christophe Leribo announced that following the high-profile robbery, all valuable exhibits were removed from the gallery. To store them, the museum plans to create a separate, highly secure, windowless room.

“We will create a secure room—essentially a vault—in another part of the museum. This will require extensive work, as well as finding a suitable location and securing funding,” said Leribot.

Once it reopens, the Apollo Gallery will resume its historic 17th-century function—serving as a ceremonial hall for formal receptions and displays of royal grandeur.

A high-profile heist took place on October 19, 2025. Using a truck with a lifting platform, the perpetrators broke into the gallery in broad daylight and stole eight pieces of the French crown jewels. They have not yet been found.

The incident caused a major public outcry and exposed serious security flaws at the world’s most-visited museum. Following the incident, the Louvre’s leadership was replaced, and a French parliamentary commission stated that museum security had not been given adequate priority in recent years.

Le Figaro reports this, citing AFP.

As a reminder, a film about the high-profile Louvre heist is set to be made in France.

In France, a fragment of the Eiffel Tower’s original staircase was sold at auction for 450,000 euros. It is part of the historic structure that once connected the floors of the legendary “Iron Lady.” The lot had been in a private collection for over 40 years and caused a real stir among collectors.
