A blogger was shot dead in Mexico during a live TikTok broadcast
In the Mexican city of Culiacán, unidentified assailants shot and killed TikToker César Gastelum during a live stream. The attack took place near a fast-food restaurant where the blogger was with friends.
According to the agency, Gastelum, who had nearly 600,000 followers on TikTok and was known for his comedy videos, was live-streaming when two people on a motorcycle, wearing helmets, pulled up next to him. The video recording of the livestream shows one of the attackers opening fire at the blogger.
A representative of the Sinaloa state security service confirmed Gastelum’s death. Following the incident, law enforcement launched a large-scale security operation.
The killing took place amid an ongoing conflict between criminal groups in Culiacán—the capital of the state of Sinaloa—where a struggle for territorial control is underway.

Reuters notes that this is not the first such incident in Mexico. In May 2025, 23-year-old beauty blogger Valeria Márquez was killed during a live broadcast on TikTok. The attack took place at the beauty salon where she worked. Subsequently, Mexican authorities reported the arrest of a man suspected of involvement in organizing the crime.
This was reported by Reuters.
As a reminder, 43-year-old TikTok influencer Sarah Gilson was shot and killed in Oklahoma. The tragedy occurred two weeks after the woman posted a video in which she publicly accused her husband of sexually harassing a minor.
In the United Kingdom, well-known TikTok blogger Michael Selwood, known to his followers as “Mikey,” died tragically. His body was found in Greater Manchester after the blogger had previously gone missing.
