Statements by the sides on the ceasefire
Israel says Hamas is rearming and carrying out attacks, violating the ceasefire agreed in October. According to the Israeli military, it has killed at least 20 Hamas members this month, including people it identified as senior commanders, participants in the October 7, 2023 attack, and people who held Israeli hostages.
Hamas denies preparing attacks and replenishing its arsenal, and also accuses Israel of undermining the agreements on Gaza. The ceasefire agreed last year through US mediation provides for the future reconstruction of the territory. At the same time, negotiators have not agreed on terms for Hamas’ disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli troops, while Israeli airstrikes continue.
According to Gaza health authorities, at least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect. The Israeli military reported the deaths of four Israeli soldiers. Palestinian authorities say more than 73,000 people have been killed since the start of the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
