The ICC has commented on the case against Karim Khan

The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has responded to the decision to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan. Officials in The Hague stated that they respect the procedure and will continue to cooperate with the authorities handling the case.

The Office also emphasized the importance of confidentiality and the protection of the rights of all participants in the process. Separately, they stressed that the safety and well-being of staff remain a priority.

In a statement, the press service of the International Criminal Court reported that the Office had taken note of the decision by the Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute regarding disciplinary proceedings against Karim Khan.

At the same time, the Office noted that it does not intend to interfere in the proceedings and is ready to cooperate within their framework. “The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has taken note of the decision of the Bureau of the Assembly of States Parties regarding the disciplinary proceedings concerning Prosecutor Karim Khan,” the statement reads.

The ICC emphasized that it treats the process with respect and does not intend to comment on it outside of established procedures.

The statement paid special attention to the issue of confidentiality. The Office of the Prosecutor noted that any disciplinary proceedings must take place without external pressure and with respect for the rights of all parties. “The Office supports the call by the Assembly of States Parties to protect the integrity of the disciplinary process and respect the confidentiality and rights of all parties involved,” the press service noted. In effect, the ICC made it clear that it does not want this case to become a subject of political or public speculation.

Another key point of the statement was support for the staff of the International Criminal Court. The Office emphasized that it fully understands its responsibility toward the people working within the Court’s structure, especially when the situation directly affects them. “We are fully aware of the Office’s duty to care for all staff and personnel, especially those directly affected by this situation,” the Office emphasized. They also pledged to continue fostering a safe work environment and a culture of mutual respect.

The disciplinary proceedings against Karim Khan have attracted significant attention from the international community in recent months. Earlier, it was reported that the ICC’s chief prosecutor had temporarily stepped aside from his duties and taken a leave of absence amid an investigation into reports of possible misconduct.

Khan himself has publicly denied the allegations against him. The proceedings are currently ongoing, and no final conclusions regarding the case have been released yet.

Karim Khan is one of the key figures in the work of the International Criminal Court. It was during his tenure that the ICC issued a series of high-profile decisions, including those concerning the investigation of war crimes in various countries around the world. Therefore, any disciplinary proceedings against the head of the Office of the Prosecutor automatically attract the attention of governments, human rights organizations, and international institutions.

While the proceedings are ongoing, the Office of the Prosecutor emphasizes only one thing: the process must proceed in accordance with the rules, without pressure, and with respect for all participants in the proceedings.

The governing body of the International Criminal Court has decided to suspend Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan. The decision is related to the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings initiated following allegations of sexual harassment. Further details of the case have not been officially disclosed.

The Moscow City Court has issued a verdict in absentia against the prosecutor and eight judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the alleged unlawful prosecution of Russian citizens.
