The team of Poland’s newly elected president, Karol Nawrocki, stated that the White House has supported the idea of a permanent U.S. military presence on Polish territory. At the same time, a final decision has not yet been made—it will depend on the new U.S. strategy regarding military presence in Europe, which the Pentagon is currently developing.

According to Przydacz, during a conversation that lasted nearly an hour, Rubio assured him that he supports changing the format of the U.S. military presence in Poland from a rotational to a permanent one.

“There is a ‘green light’ from the White House. I heard this statement from Marco Rubio as well,” the Polish minister noted.

At the same time, he added that the final model for the presence of U.S. forces in Poland will be worked out after the Pentagon completes its work on a new strategy for the U.S. military presence in Europe.

Pszydach noted that Washington’s political decision is linked not only to U.S. strategic interests but also to its high regard for Poland as an ally. According to him, Rubio called Poland an “exemplary ally” that allocates an appropriate share of its GDP to defense and actively invests in modern weapons and defense technologies.

The head of the International Policy Bureau also reported that the U.S. side confirmed its intention to deploy approximately 5,000 military personnel to Poland. At the same time, he noted, this does not mean the return to Poland of a rotational armored brigade consisting of about 4,000 troops, whose rotation had been suspended.

“This should not be viewed as the return of that brigade. Rather, it is about a new concept for the U.S. military presence,” Pszydach clarified.

He emphasized that what is key is not only the size of the U.S. force but also its combat capabilities and the very fact of the transition to a permanent presence, which will send an important signal to allies and potential adversaries.

According to Przydacz, on Thursday, Bartosz Grodecki, head of Poland’s National Security Bureau, will hold talks at the Pentagon with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby, who is responsible for developing a new model for the U.S. military presence in Europe.

The Polish official reported that during the talks with Rubio, the parties also discussed security issues related to Russian aggression against Ukraine, as well as the situation in Central Europe and the Middle East.

This was announced by Marcin Przydacz, head of the International Policy Bureau at the Office of the President of Poland, following talks in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to Wnp.pl.

Navrotsky met with leaders from Romania and the Baltic states.
