30 children rescued from illegal orphanage in Nigeria — Premium Times Nigeria
In the city of Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria, the state Ministry of Social Development rescued 30 children from the Iranlowo Oluwa Orphanage and Children’s Home, which Premium Times Nigeria describes as illegal. The operation was carried out after community members expressed concerns about the children’s living conditions at the facility.
The children were placed under the ministry’s supervision
Among those rescued were boys and girls aged between two and 15. They were transferred to a facility under the ministry’s supervision.
According to the state government, the children are undergoing assessment and rehabilitation following the rescue. Specialists are also assessing their immediate needs, health condition and educational needs.

Search for families
Commissioner for Social Development Mariam Imam said the ministry is searching for the children’s families in order to reunite them with relatives where possible. Children who cannot be returned to their families may be referred to approved care facilities.
Imam also instructed all orphanages, children’s homes and other child care facilities in Kwara State to register with the ministry. Hamzat Abdulfatah, the ministry’s director of social work, who took part in the operation, said the intervention strengthened cooperation among the parties involved.
