A large-scale blackout occurred in Germany due to arson at a power substation
In the German city of Reutlingen, investigators found evidence of a possible arson attack following a fire at an electrical substation that caused a widespread power outage affecting tens of thousands of people.
According to a spokesperson for the State Criminal Police Office in Stuttgart, physical evidence was seized during an examination of the scene.
“There are signs that an incendiary device was used,” the agency representative stated.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, the investigation was transferred to the Center for State Security and Counterterrorism of the State Criminal Police Office of Baden-Württemberg. A special investigative team has been formed to establish all the circumstances.
State Interior Minister Manuel Hägele reported that additional police units have been deployed to Reutlingen to protect critical infrastructure and maintain public order in areas left without power.
According to preliminary data, approximately 7,600 buildings and nearly 40,000 residents were left without power due to the accident.
The head of the Ministry of the Interior emphasized that the investigation is being conducted as quickly as possible due to possible signs of arson and interference with the work of utility services.
At the same time, law enforcement officials do not yet have any information about possible suspects or the motives behind the crime.
It is also currently unknown when power will be fully restored to all consumers.
