Two suspects have been arrested in Germany on charges of espionage and planning acts of sabotage

German law enforcement authorities have detained two men suspected of working for a foreign intelligence service and planning potential acts of sabotage.

This was reported by Spiegel.

According to the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office and the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects are a 43-year-old Ukrainian citizen and a 45-year-old Latvian citizen.

The men were stopped during a routine check on April 12 on a highway near Neunettelsau. They drew the attention of law enforcement officers during a trip that, according to preliminary data, they were undertaking on behalf of a certain organization from another country.

During a search, items were found that raised suspicions about the true purpose of their stay in Germany. Among them were several mobile phones and SIM cards, forged documents, GPS trackers, radio communication devices, and a drone.

Both detainees have been taken into custody. They are charged, in particular, with conducting reconnaissance for the purpose of preparing sabotage operations, as well as possessing forged documents.

Due to the ongoing investigation, law enforcement officials are not currently disclosing all details of the case.

Earlier, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office reported the arrest of Ukrainian citizen Vitaliy M., who is suspected of gathering information for Russian intelligence.

Meanwhile, in Germany, Federal Prosecutor General Jens Rommel arrested three suspected spies who may have been passing information on military technology to the Chinese secret service.
