In Pakistan, TTAP alliance to fully join PTI protest on October 4 — Dawn

The opposition alliance Tehreek-i-Tahafuz-Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) said it would fully join the nationwide protest of the PTI party scheduled for October 4 in Pakistan. The action includes, in particular, a march to Islamabad demanding the release of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan.

March postponed by a week

PTI initially planned to hold the protest on September 27, but postponed it to October 4 last week. TTAP includes PTI itself. As Dawn reports, the alliance leadership did not fully support the decision to postpone the march, but agreed to respect it, although it did not approve of it.

TTAP spokesperson Akhunzada Hussain Ahmad Yousafzai said that the call for a protest on September 27 had been unanimously agreed upon as a joint initiative of the opposition alliance. According to him, the meeting also determined the strategy for protests in the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan and held detailed consultations with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and PTI leadership.

Alliance leadership's position

Yousafzai noted that before the announcement of the postponement, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan had met with opposition leaders. They were told that every day after September 27 was critically important. After the date was changed, TTAP declared its full participation in the October 4 protest.

Earlier, Afridi said that PTI allies had been informed of the party's decision. According to Yousafzai, Afridi contacted TTAP chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai, who is also the opposition leader in the National Assembly. Achakzai and Senate opposition leader Raja Nasir Abbas advised PTI to stick to the original plan, but later agreed to respect the party's decision, although they did not approve of it.
