Windstorm cuts power to 16 grid feeders in Pakistan’s Swabi district — Dawn

In Pakistan’s Swabi district, a windstorm on Friday night caused outages at 16 power grid feeders. Employees of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) were trying to restore electricity supply to consumers, Dawn reports.

Damage to the power grid

The outages affected the areas of Charbagh, Shamansur, Mansabdar, Tordher, Swabi city, Karnal Sher Khan Kallay, Bamkhel, Totalai, Chinglai, Kaddi, Palodand, Zaida, Town-1 and Town-2.

Pesco representatives said that the windstorm toppled power poles and damaged cables in many areas. In some places, large trees fell onto power lines, forcing the electricity supply to be suspended.

Restoration and damage

Pesco said the company lacks sufficient staff for round-the-clock restoration work. At the same time, it noted that employees are making efforts to restore electricity supply.

Consumers complained that company employees had focused on restoring electricity supply in Swabi city, without giving due attention to other areas.

The windstorm also knocked down billboards and tore off solar panels installed on rooftops, causing losses to people. The severe weather also damaged crops.
