Pakistan begins pozzolan extraction for Diamer-Bhasha Dam — Dawn

In Pakistan’s Diamer district, the extraction and transportation of pozzolan from Ghini for the construction of the main structure of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam has officially begun. This was described as an important stage in the project’s implementation, Dawn reports.

Material for concrete

The extracted pozzolan is planned to be processed for use in roller-compacted concrete during the construction of the main dam. After this, the placement of such concrete is to officially begin at the construction site.

The Diamer-Bhasha Dam project consists of two main parts: the dam itself and other related engineering structures. Preparatory measures for the start of material extraction and transportation were completed by the project management and the district administration.

Officials’ participation

The work began in accordance with instructions from Wapda Chairman, retired Lieutenant General Muhammad Saeed, and Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Secretary Arshad Majid Mohmand.

On this occasion, Diamer-Astor Division Commissioner Azim Ullah, Diamer Basha Development Company General Manager Engineer Dr. Nazakat Hussain, and Project Director Engineer Arif Ali arrived in Ghini. Representatives of the district administration, Wapda, consultants and contractors, as well as local elders and ulema, were also present.

The division commissioner and the company’s head stated their intention to strengthen coordination in order to accelerate construction work. Local elders and ulema supported the project’s earliest possible completion, calling it important for the region’s socio-economic development.
