Pakistan says six militants killed in Balochistan — Dawn

Pakistani security forces said they had killed six militants during an intelligence-based operation in the Sanni area of Kacchi district in Balochistan province. Dawn reports, citing security sources.

Operation in the Sanni area

According to the sources, the militants, whom they link to groups that Pakistani authorities call Fitna al Hindustan, were attacked using quadcopters. State-run Radio Pakistan also reported the seizure of a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition from them.

The Pakistani state uses the name Fitna al Hindustan for designated groups based in Balochistan. Authorities explain that the term is intended to emphasize claims about India’s role in terrorism and destabilizing the situation in Pakistan.

Previous operations in the province

According to Dawn, the number of terrorist attacks in Balochistan has increased in recent weeks, prompting security forces to intensify counterterrorism operations. On Tuesday, security forces said they had killed two militants in Chagai district.

Pakistan’s military media wing reported on September 27 that more than 71 militants had been killed over the previous 96 hours in Shabani and other areas of Balochistan. Another three were killed, according to the Pakistani side, on September 17 in the Badrang area of Awaran district, and three on September 14 in Mastung.

Earlier in September, according to Pakistani reports, 21 people described as militants were killed in clashes in Nokch, Chagai district, Ziarat Cross, and Pishin district. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies reported that the number of terrorist attacks in the province rose by 7%, from 83 in July to 89 in August. The report described Balochistan as the province most affected by terrorism.
