Pakistan calls for an end to illegal trawling in Balochistan — Dawn

In Pakistan, the head of Jamaat-i-Islami’s Balochistan chapter and a member of the provincial assembly, Maulana Hidayatur Rehman Baloch, called on the authorities to take effective measures to stop illegal trawling in the province’s waters. According to him, this activity deprives local fishermen, including residents of Gwadar’s coastal areas, of their livelihoods, Dawn reports.

Meeting with fisheries department leadership

At a meeting with Fisheries Department Director General Atik-ur Rehman, Baloch discussed possible measures to prevent illegal trawling. He also raised the issues of protecting local fishermen’s livelihoods, transparent registration of fishermen, and the sustainable development of the fisheries sector.

Patrolling in the Gwadar area

Baloch called on the department to strengthen patrols and monitoring systems in Gwadar’s coastal areas. He also requested that measures provided for by law be taken against illegal trawling in Balochistan’s waters.
