In Pakistan, woman reports abuse after meeting on Facebook
In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, a woman approached police with allegations of financial exploitation and sexual violence by a man she met on Facebook. As Dawn reports, Rawat police registered a case and launched an investigation.
The woman’s statement
According to the complainant, she met the man on the social network about three years ago. They later began speaking by phone, and the man promised to marry her.
In her statement to police, the woman claims that during this time she gave him expensive gifts, including clothing, shoes, watches and perfume. She also stated that the man repeatedly demanded money from her and received a total of 300,000 Pakistani rupees in cash.

Circumstances set out in the FIR
According to the woman, after she asked the man to meet her family, he began coming to her home. She stated that on April 26, he took her to a hotel in Bahria Town, Phase 7, where, she alleges, he raped her.
The complainant also claims that the man threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident. Later, she said, she learned that he was already married, and he withdrew his promise of marriage.
