Paris Women’s Fashion Week for Spring-Summer 2027 Begins — Asharq Al-Awsat
Paris, France, hosted the start of Women’s Fashion Week on September 28, with 67 runway shows of Spring-Summer 2027 collections scheduled. Participants on the first day include South African brand MaXhosa Africa and Canadian brand Matières Fécales, Asharq Al-Awsat reports.
Paris fashion week programme
In addition to official shows, dozens of brands will present collections at private viewings and themed events in the French capital. Christian Dior and Saint Laurent are due to hold shows on Tuesday.
MaXhosa Africa, founded in 2010 by textile designer Laduma Ngxokolo, specialises in luxury knitwear. The brand previously held private presentations in Paris but has now been invited to the official programme. Ngxokolo aims to promote South African culture and the traditions of the Xhosa people; the publication names Michelle Obama and Beyoncé among admirers of his designs.
The Matières Fécales show, scheduled for 19:00 Paris time, will conclude the first day of the event. The brand first appeared in Paris in March 2025 and subsequently dressed celebrities. Its name means “fecal matter” in French; it was chosen so that customers would be attracted primarily by the clothing design rather than the brand name.

The situation in the luxury segment
The fashion week is taking place amid a difficult commercial situation for luxury brands. Pascal Morand, executive president of the French Fashion and Haute Couture Federation, said that after an active period for the sector following the COVID-19 pandemic, it peaked in 2023 and the market subsequently stabilised. According to him, large groups, mid-sized labels and young designers are experiencing these changes differently, while markets, sales channels and business models are transforming.
At the same time, some labels are showing positive momentum. Since Matthieu Blazy took over Chanel a year ago, his collections have generated significant customer interest, with people lining up outside some of the brand’s boutiques. Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2027 show will take place next Monday.
The publication also reports possible personnel changes in the industry. According to trade blog Miss Tweed, Italian designer Pierpaolo Piccioli is allegedly under pressure from Kering management after Balenciaga failed to maintain the sales level achieved under his predecessor Demna. Investigative media outlet Glitz claims that Chloé creative director Chemena Kamali may leave her position due to the brand’s insufficient profitability.
