Police officer killed in operation against militants in Peshawar — Dawn

One police officer was killed and two others were injured in Peshawar, in northwestern Pakistan, during a shootout between officers of the police Counter Terrorism Department and militants. According to Dawn, the incident occurred in the Ghari Sherdad area near Warsak Road on the outskirts of the city.

Shootout during the operation

A senior Counter Terrorism Department official said that security forces received information about the presence of militants in the area and planned an operation. According to him, as soon as the department's team arrived at the scene, it came under fire.

The official said that one police officer was killed in the clash, while two of his colleagues were injured. He also claimed that one militant was killed.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the family of the killed police officer. He also wished the two injured law enforcement officers a speedy and full recovery.

In recent months, militant activity has increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the publication reported, with militants attacking law enforcement officers and security forces. Earlier this month, police said that five militants were killed during a shootout with the Counter Terrorism Department in the Shamshatu area on the border of the Peshawar and Nowshera districts. A week earlier, the department reported four militants killed in the Badbher area of Peshawar.
