An updated Eurodac system has been launched at the border in Poland
The updated and modernized European Eurodac system, designed to register the biometric data of foreign nationals, has officially gone live in Poland.
This new digital tool is already actively supporting the work of local police and border guards, significantly strengthening the fight against illegal migration and cross-border crime.
The platform’s extensive modernization enables the rapid collection of fingerprints and digital facial images of foreign nationals seeking international asylum or who have illegally crossed the European Union’s external borders.
One of the key changes has been a significant lowering of the age threshold for mandatory registration—from now on, biometric data is collected from children as young as 6, whereas previously this procedure applied to individuals aged 14 and older.
In addition, law enforcement agencies have been granted expanded access to the database to more quickly identify suspects, victims of crime, and individuals involved in terrorist activities.
The updated Eurodac system stores not only biometric data but also important alphanumeric data, including passport serial numbers and detailed information about citizens’ travel documents.
The new technology allows relevant agencies to instantly determine whether a specific individual has filed an official application for asylum in another EU country.
This approach significantly streamlines lengthy administrative procedures and prevents the abuse of refugee status within the European Union.
“This solution allows for more effective identification of individuals attempting to cross borders illegally, ensuring better cooperation between agencies and strengthening protection,” emphasized Tomasz Szymański, Poland’s Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration.
This was reported by the Ministry of the Interior.
