In Poland, a Russian couple was convicted of spying for the FSB
A court in Poland has handed down a sentence to a Russian couple accused of spying for Russian intelligence agencies and passing on information that harmed the country’s security.
The District Court in Sosnowiec sentenced Russian citizen Igor R. to seven years in prison and his wife, Irina R., to three years in prison.
According to the investigation, Igor R. collaborated with the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) from February through August 2022. He collected and transmitted information about Russian opposition figures residing in Poland, as well as about individuals and organizations assisting them.
Investigators determined that the man passed the collected data to his wife on an encrypted electronic storage device. According to the prosecution, Iryna R. was supposed to deliver this information to FSB representatives in Russia.
In addition, Igor R. was found guilty of involvement in sending a package containing explosives. According to the Polish National Prosecutor’s Office, in July 2024, he, along with two Ukrainian citizens and another Russian citizen, participated in the shipment of a package containing explosive devices and nitroglycerin. The dangerous package was discovered at a courier company’s warehouse in the Łódź Voivodeship.
The couple was detained in July 2024 and subsequently remanded in custody. The indictment was filed with the court in October 2025, and the trial began in January 2026 behind closed doors.
