Poland has extended the reduced fuel prices until mid-May

Poland has extended the reduced fuel prices until mid-May

The Polish government has decided to extend the period of reduced VAT and excise tax rates on motor fuel from April 30 to May 15, 2026.

RMF 24 reports this, noting that the decision is part of the government’s program to support consumers amid market instability. The extension of these measures is due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has caused price fluctuations on global markets.

According to an order from the Minister of Finance and Economy, the VAT rate on gasoline, diesel, and biofuels will remain at 8% instead of the standard 23%. Additionally, the excise tax has been kept at the minimum level permitted by European Union directives. The government emphasizes that these measures are temporary and aimed at stabilizing the domestic energy market.

The program also includes a mechanism to curb prices by setting a maximum price cap. The Polish Ministry of Energy is required to publish daily updates on the maximum fuel prices at gas stations. This approach helps reduce the financial burden on the public and businesses, especially amid geopolitical tensions caused by Russia’s actions and instability in oil-producing regions.

The government explained why it introduced a cashback program instead of lowering fuel prices.

The Ministry of Economy explained whether the “National Cashback” program will continue in July.
