A scandal has erupted in Poland over blue-and-yellow parking spaces near a school
In the Polish town of Raszyn, some local residents concluded that the blue-and-yellow parking spaces near a school had been designated specifically for Ukrainians. This sparked a heated debate on social media, and local authorities were forced to explain the actual purpose of the markings.
Blue-and-yellow markings appeared near one of the schools in Raszyn. Afterward, speculation began to spread on social media that the parking spaces were allegedly designated “specifically for Ukrainians.”
Another theory was that the local authorities were supposedly trying to show solidarity with Ukrainian schoolchildren.
One Rashin resident said:
“At first, I was shocked when I saw it. I thought something was starting.”
Konrad Berkowicz, a deputy from the “Confederation” party, also joined the discussion. Commenting on the appearance of the blue-and-yellow spaces, he asked: “Is this still Poland?”
Local authorities stated that the colors of the parking spaces have nothing to do with Ukrainians.
In fact, a “Kiss and Ride” (K+R) zone is being set up near the school. It is intended for short-term parking so that parents can drop off their children and immediately drive away without obstructing other drivers.
Anetta Wrotna, deputy head of the Raszyn municipality, called the reaction of some residents unexpected.
“The Kiss and Ride zone is intended for all residents who park near local schools to drop off their children, give them a kiss, and drive away,” she explained.
According to Wrotna, the road marking work is not yet complete. The words “Kiss and Ride” are to be painted at these locations, along with a white border.
Thus, the blue-and-yellow design does not mean that the parking spaces are reserved for Ukrainian citizens.
The scandal over the parking spaces arose against the backdrop of growing anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Poland.
It was previously reported that anti-Ukrainian rhetoric in the country is increasingly turning into actual conflicts and attacks, and certain right-wing political forces are exploiting this issue in domestic political struggles.
According to Polish police, 180 reports of crimes against Ukrainian citizens were filed in the first half of 2026.
At the same time, in the case of Raszyn, local authorities emphasized that the blue-and-yellow parking spaces are a standard part of traffic management near the school and are not related to the nationality of drivers or children.
