At least 14 people were killed and another 11 injured in an explosion at a temporary storage site for weapons and remnants of war near the city of Sarmada in Syria’s Idlib province. This was reported by the Jerusalem Post, citing Syrian state television.

Defense Ministry employees among the injured

Syria’s Ministry of Defense said the facility stored weapons and remnants of war before they were transported to another location. According to the ministry, its employees were among those injured.

New explosions hampered firefighting efforts

Civil defense units and firefighters were dispatched to the scene. According to the source, successive explosions hampered efforts to extinguish the fire, while thick smoke rose above the site for several hours. Authorities have not yet named the cause of the initial explosion.

On September 1, a vehicle carrying ammunition exploded in another locality in Idlib province, Binnish. Syrian state media reported that five people were killed and several others injured.
