A Russian national was arrested in Poland for plotting to kill a Ukrainian and an American
Poland’s Internal Security Agency, in cooperation with the police, detained a Russian citizen suspected of plotting to murder a citizen of Ukraine and the United States.
According to Polish law enforcement officials, the man was acting on orders from Russian intelligence services. He was detained before the crime could be carried out.
Tusk reported that the Russian national was detained by Polish law enforcement on August 7. According to him, the man was recruited by Russian intelligence services, and his mission was to carry out an assassination in Warsaw.
The target was to be a citizen holding two passports—one from the U.S. and one from Ukraine. The Polish prime minister did not disclose the man’s name but noted that this individual was “inconvenient from the perspective of Putin’s regime.”
“This is the first case in which someone, acting on Russia’s orders, attempted to assassinate an American citizen on the territory of another NATO country—specifically, on Polish territory, in Warsaw,” Tusk emphasized.
The Polish Prime Minister recalled that Russia is waging a hybrid war against Western European countries that support Ukraine, and there is reason to expect such situations to recur.
“Unfortunately, we must assume that Putin’s regime will attempt to eliminate people who are inconvenient for various reasons in different parts of the world,” he said.
Tusk assured that Polish intelligence agencies are prepared for such scenarios in the future.
“Our efforts in this regard will be extremely intensive to prevent any potential future attempts targeting citizens of Poland or other countries on our territory. I have already discussed this in detail with the Minister-Coordinator for Intelligence Affairs…In the future, we will likely also face such pressure, so we have a very difficult task ahead of us to avoid the worst-case scenarios,” the Polish prime minister concluded.

Ukraine was not invited to the military parade in Poland.

As a reminder, in the Polish city of Gdynia, law enforcement officers detained a 76-year-old Polish citizen who brutally attacked a 40-year-old Ukrainian woman. According to the investigation, the man beat the woman with a stick, after which he was detained by criminal investigators from the local police department.
On the evening of August 1, in the city of Kozhukhiv (Lubusz Voivodeship), three Ukrainian citizens—37-year-old Volodymyr, 32-year-old Vasyl, and 28-year-old Adelina—were attacked. The incident took place on the private grounds of the hostel where the victims were staying.
