In Russia, Claude users have begun complaining en masse about their accounts being blocked

Users of the Claude artificial intelligence service in Russia began reporting account suspensions on October 1. In messages to users, the platform’s developer, Anthropic, cited suspicious activity that may indicate violations of the service’s rules, according to The Bell.

Roman Maresov, head of e-commerce at Yandex, was among those who reported that his account had been blocked. He published a letter from Anthropic notifying him that his access to the service had been restricted.

Another Russian user said he had been paying $200 a month for a Claude Max subscription for over a year. He used a virtual server in Helsinki to access the service, but his account was also blocked.

This is not the first wave of Claude user blocks in Russia. In May, Anthropic blocked several hundred accounts, as reported by Baza. As a result, some IT professionals and entrepreneurs lost access to their work correspondence and projects.

AI implementation expert Roman Adamenko speculated that Anthropic’s systems might have been reacting to frequent changes in IP addresses and regions while using a VPN. Artificial intelligence specialist Dmitry Antipov attributed the previous blocks to stricter internal reviews of unverified accounts.

At the same time, the statements from Anthropic cited above do not specify the exact reasons for blocking individual Russian users.
