In Switzerland, Tehran will raise the issue of Lebanon, while Washington will address the nuclear program
During talks with the U.S. in Switzerland, the Iranian delegation plans to focus on the issue of a ceasefire in Lebanon.
The key topic will be the situation in the Middle East and the actions of Israel, which Tehran refers to as the “Zionist regime.”
“The Zionist regime continues to violate its obligations in Lebanon, so this issue will be the main topic of discussion at today’s talks,” said Esmail Baghai.
The Iranian side also plans to raise the issue of unfreezing Iran’s frozen assets and the issuance of U.S. licenses for the sale of Iranian oil.
Tehran insists that economic restrictions must be part of a broader negotiation process.
The United States, however, is focusing on another key issue—restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program.
According to U.S. officials, Washington considers reaching an agreement on Iran’s renunciation of nuclear weapons development a priority.
The negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of an escalating situation in the Middle East and ongoing tensions between Iran, the U.S., and Israel, which are affecting regional security and energy markets.
This was stated by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai, Al Jazeera reports.
On June 20, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israel’s continued military operations against Lebanon. Tehran also accused the U.S. of violating the ceasefire agreements and warned of possible further steps.
Trump stated that Iran would not receive any money under the new agreement.
Iran has proven to be a tough nut to crack for Washington, according to the director of the Center for the Study of Contemporary Iran.
Trump called the deal with Iran an unconditional surrender.
