The Swedish company Nordic Air Defense has unveiled its new K100XR interceptor drone, which uses artificial intelligence to detect and engage aerial targets.
The drone is designed to counter short-range threats and is capable of independently analyzing the situation while carrying out missions.
The K100XR can reach speeds of over 350 km/h, allowing it to respond quickly to aerial threats.
It is noted that the K100XR has already been demonstrated in real combat conditions. During a public presentation, the interceptor detected and attacked target drones in real time.
According to Karl Rosander, CEO of Nordic Air Defense, the K100XR can replace expensive missiles and other munitions used to shoot down enemy drones. He also stated that the drone was designed to meet requirements for high speed, autonomy, maneuverability, and low cost per shoot-down.
The publication noted that this interceptor drone was unveiled at a time when the West is seeking a reliable and effective solution to the drone problem. During the wars between Russia and Ukraine, as well as between the U.S. and Iran, interceptor drones have demonstrated their potential.
Nordic Air Defense reported that the K100XR is only 0.3 meters long and can reach speeds of over 350 km/h. It is equipped with built-in artificial intelligence that helps it detect, track, and destroy aerial threats without any external control.
The interceptor drone is made of carbon fiber. Nordic Air Defense noted that it can operate safely at altitudes of up to 1,000 meters and shoot down drones at distances of up to three kilometers.
The new interceptor drone can effectively combat “Shaheds”
Analysts at NextGen Defense believe that the new interceptor drone could be an effective countermeasure against “Shahed”-type drones and other reconnaissance UAVs. Furthermore, the presence of onboard artificial intelligence allows the interceptor to maintain radio silence while operating on the battlefield.
The K100XR is capable of independently tracking and destroying enemy drones. It does not need to rely on instructions from an operator.
“We’ve assembled a team of engineers, operators, and designers who act quickly, solve complex problems, and turn complex systems into real combat capabilities. With Sweden as our base, we continue to expand internationally—rapidly scaling up and creating combat capabilities where it matters most: in the field,” Rosander said.
