Singapore to resume Sengkang West LRT train service on October 4 — Channel NewsAsia
In Singapore, train services on the inner loop of the Sengkang West LRT will resume on Sunday, October 4, two weeks ahead of the original schedule. The section was closed on April 19 for extensive upgrading works and the expansion of the Sengkang-Punggol LRT depot.
Works completed ahead of schedule
According to Channel NewsAsia, services on the inner loop, which runs via Cheng Lim station from Sengkang LRT station, were initially scheduled to resume on October 18. Singapore's Land Transport Authority said the project team was able to complete the works earlier by optimising their sequence.
Shuttle buses that operated during weekday peak hours to maintain transport connections while the line was closed will cease operations after the Friday evening peak hour.

Depot expansion and new trains
The depot near Tongkang station is being expanded threefold so that it can serve a larger fleet of Sengkang-Punggol LRT trains amid growing passenger traffic. The works involved substantial modifications to the existing tracks, connecting new depot reception tracks to the main line, as well as installing and testing signalling systems and equipment.
The full depot expansion is scheduled to be completed by 2027. Authorities will also procure another eight third-generation two-car trains, and the fleet is expected to comprise 41 two-car trains by 2030. The additional trains are being procured in addition to 25 new third-generation trainsets that are gradually replacing the first-generation fleet. The first two of them began operating in July 2025, while eight second-generation trains will remain in service.
