Man in Singapore to be charged after fatal traffic accident
In Singapore, a 41-year-old man is due to be charged on September 2, 2026, in connection with a fatal traffic accident near a night market. According to preliminary police information, he used a vaporiser containing etomidate before the trip, after which he lost control of the car. A 66-year-old worker at a temporary stall was killed in the crash.
Circumstances of the accident
As Channel NewsAsia reports, police received a report about the accident at around midnight on July 11, 2025, on Pipit Road, near Block 52A on Circuit Road. According to the Singapore Police Force, the driver lost control of the car: it suddenly surged forward, broke through a parking barrier, crossed the two-lane Pipit Road, mounted the kerb and crashed into a roadside night-market stall.
The woman was inside the stall at the time of the collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, the driver did not render assistance to her, abandoned the car and fled the scene together with another man who was a passenger.

Planned charges
Police identified the driver through on-site inquiries and police camera footage and arrested him the following day. Law enforcement officers also said that the man did not have a valid driving licence.
He is expected to be charged with driving under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving, dangerous driving causing death, as well as driving without a valid licence and using a car without insurance coverage. Other charges include failing to stop and provide information after an accident and failing to render assistance after a traffic accident.
The passenger had a valid driving licence, and the car was rented through his account. Police will take no further action against him because he died in another road accident unrelated to this case.
