The U.S. plans to use neural networks for cyber warfare

The U.S. plans to use neural networks for cyber warfare

The Pentagon is establishing a task force to oversee the implementation of cutting-edge artificial intelligence models in cyber operations, including potentially offensive scenarios. The initiative involves integrating neural networks into U.S. Department of Defense systems to handle the most sensitive data. At the same time, the military is considering collaboration with major Silicon Valley IT companies. Gizmodo reports this, citing Politico.

The U.S. military is launching a new initiative under which artificial intelligence may begin to be used not only for analysis or defense, but also in offensive cyber operations. This is reported by Western media, citing sources within U.S. defense agencies.

According to Gizmodo and Politico, the Pentagon is forming a special task force to assess how advanced AI models can be safely integrated into military missions. Particular attention is being paid to working with the Department of Defense’s classified systems and secure networks.

As noted, this involves not only defense functions but also the use of artificial intelligence in cyberattacks. In effect, this could mark a new phase of digital warfare, where decisions will be partially made by neural networks. The initiative is exploring the possibility of using the Claude Mythos Preview model from Anthropic. At the same time, the Pentagon itself previously identified this company as a potential risk to the supply chain, which legally complicates cooperation.

Despite this, the project has already launched, and leadership from U.S. Cyber Command and the National Security Agency is participating in its implementation. The group’s task is to assess how Silicon Valley technologies can function within military systems of the highest classification.

The concept is often based on Project Glasswing, which is being developed by Anthropic. It was originally created to detect vulnerabilities in networks, but its functionality can now be expanded to include active cyber operations. “AI tools are rapidly becoming essential for detecting threats, prioritizing vulnerabilities, accelerating decision-making, and conducting both defensive and offensive cyber operations faster than our adversaries,” said Charles Moore, former deputy commander of U.S. Cyber Command.

According to The Wall Street Journal, despite the controversy surrounding the use of Anthropic’s technologies, the U.S. administration is already actively incorporating these developments into defense programs. The White House is also blocking or reviewing the participation of certain companies in cybersecurity-related projects.

Experts note that the new initiative could be one of the most important steps in the digital transformation of the U.S. armed forces, where artificial intelligence is gradually becoming a key tool of military strategy.

As a reminder, Cuba has restored its power grid following a massive blackout.

Trump also confirmed the U.S. intention to intervene in Cuba.
