Trump's team is compiling a list of uncooperative NATO countries — Politico
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is compiling a list of NATO allies who could face sanctions for failing to sufficiently support U.S. policy.
This is reported by Politico.
According to sources, the countries are to be divided into “compliant” and “non-compliant” based on their level of participation in collective defense and support for U.S. actions.
The plan involves reviewing allies’ defense contributions and potentially imposing sanctions on those nations that fail to meet Washington’s expectations.
Among the options for “punishment” being considered are, in particular, the redeployment of U.S. troops or restrictions on military cooperation.
At the same time, specific mechanisms remain undefined, and the U.S. administration is not disclosing details.
According to sources, Poland and Romania could be potential beneficiaries of this approach, as they may see an increased U.S. military presence.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that the U.S. is unlikely to leave the Alliance. At the same time, he acknowledged that Donald Trump is disappointed with some allies. Rutte called on Europe to invest more in defense.
U.S. President Donald Trump once again sharply criticized NATO, stating that the Alliance had been “absolutely ineffective” and had not joined the U.S. and Israel in their actions against Iran.
