Air quality in Singapore’s central region reaches unhealthy level
In Singapore’s central region, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reached 101 on September 4, 2026, entering the unhealthy category. According to Channel NewsAsia, these readings were displayed on the air quality monitoring dashboard of Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) as of 7:00 a.m.
Readings in other regions
In other regions of Singapore, the 24-hour PSI remained at a moderate level. The reading was 87 in the west, 86 in the east, 76 in the north, and 74 in the south.
An unhealthy air quality level corresponds to a PSI of 101 to 200. The NEA said it would issue daily haze advisories when the 24-hour PSI enters the unhealthy range, meaning it exceeds 100.

Warnings and agency preparedness
At the beginning of August, the ASEAN Specialized Meteorological Centre raised the alert level for the southern part of the ASEAN region to Level 2, the second-highest level. This signals an increased risk of transboundary haze.
The warning is linked to increased hotspot activity and observations of moderate or dense smoke haze for two or more consecutive days. Earlier, Singaporean authorities said that 28 public agencies within the inter-agency haze response task force were ready to implement their action plans if air quality deteriorated further.
The group is led by the NEA. It develops and implements measures to minimize the effects of haze, while agencies may apply phased measures depending on air quality readings and forecasts. This year, the group has already met twice: at the end of January following peatland and vegetation fires in eastern Johor, and in April.
