In the UK, the social media platform X has been accused of racism — The Guardian
The administration of the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has rejected numerous requests to remove racist posts targeting prominent British public figures.
Kemi Badenoch, leader of the Conservative Party of Great Britain, was subjected to particularly intense harassment, with platform users regularly spreading crude insults about her skin color.
Representatives of the well-known think tank British Future monitored the situation and filed official complaints about unacceptable content, but the platform’s management failed to take action in most of the documented cases.
Throughout May 2026, researchers from the British Future think tank officially reported racist remarks directed at the Conservative Party leader to the social media platform’s moderators more than 30 times.
Despite the numerous reports and clear violations of generally accepted ethical standards, the platform’s response was minimal. According to the researchers, X ultimately removed only two posts related to the politician.
Moreover, analysts noted that not a single user who spread the insults was blocked on the social network, effectively allowing violators to act with impunity.
Human rights activists and experts note that the platform’s reporting system does not function properly when it comes to instances of discrimination and xenophobia.
“Many people will intuitively report racist posts as ‘hate, insults, or harassment,’ but it seems X does not consider this to be hate,” noted Awaes Mohammad, an employee of the center.
According to him, the company’s policy has surprised the public, as the insults directed at politicians were systematic and openly aggressive.
This was reported by The Guardian.
